Online Learning Support: How to Access Library Resources

UW / CC Information Literacy Concepts

You can consult with your librarian to develop assignments based on these modules:

  • Research 101 tutorial – This guided series of activities leads students through the core principles of academic research as understood by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL).
  • Citation Help - Your students can find MLA, APA, Chicago, and CSE citation help and style guides here.
  • Annotated Bibliographies – Resources and examples for creating meaningful and useful annotations.

Information Literacy Tutorials at Other Institutions

You can use these tutorials for fundamental information literacy skills to inspire online assignments & assessments, on your own or in collaboration with your librarian:

  • University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee – A scaffolded set of text and video tutorials that introduce different aspects of information literacy, including a section for faculty to more easily incorporate this content into a lesson.
  • Castleton University – A fully text-based tutorial that walks through all steps of identifying information needs to finding information sources to evaluating sources.  (use would require some tailoring to avoid confusion with institution-specific resources)
  • McHenry County College – A solid set of text tutorials that walk students through the stages of the research process, paying particular attention to developing a research topic, plan, and foundation of information.
