Status and What's Open

In alignment with the statewide Safe Start Plan, the UW Bothell and Cascadia College campus remains in Phase 2 with most classes online and most staff working remotely.

The library building is closed and will remain closed during Phase 2 based on the protocols outlined within University of Washington COVID-19 Safe Start Phases.

Changes to the availability of library services and access to resources will be updated here. Please check back often.

Building Access - CLOSED

The library building is closed and will remain closed during Phase 2. For the health and safety of all employees and our campus community members, all Libraries staff are working remotely, and services are limited. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

Returning Library Items - SOME OPEN

The Campus Library book returns are open:

  • Drive up book return (accessible from Campus Way NE)
  • Library building exterior book return (accessible from the Promenade level)

Borrowing Library Items - ONLINE ONLY

At this time, and until further notice, we will not have access to any of the physical collection, including journals, books, and media, and will not be able to fulfill requests for these materials. Therefore the following services are unavailable: Request a UW item for pick upSummitUW Article Scanning ServicesScan for Canvas Service & Physical Course ReservesHome Delivery and Departmental Delivery.

Interlibrary Loan services will be limited to electronic articles and other electronic materials only.

UW Libraries have many online resources (eBooks, eVideos, scholarly and news articles) available that can assist with teaching and learning.  See our Online Learning Support pages For Students and For Faculty for more information.


The Campus Library circulates laptops to UWB students, which may be available for checkout during the building closure. For more details, or if you need to return the laptop prior to its due date, visit our laptops page.

UWB IT is also now offering a laptops and internet hotspots as a part of their equipment checkout service, and UWB students can get more information on their page at

Cascadia also offers laptops as a part of their equipment checkout service and Cascadia students can get more information on the availability of this service at

Course Reserves - ONLINE ONLY

With user safety and equitable access in mind, no physical materials (books and media) will be placed on course reserves for Fall 2020.

Because library staff are working remotely and the library building remains closed, scanning and digitization services are not available until further notice.

Due Dates & Fines - POSTPONED

Upcoming due dates have been adjusted when possible.  If you have items checked out, please continue to renew them if possible.

 Overdue fines accrued between March 6, 2020 and the day the Libraries re-open will be canceled.

The Washington State Department of Commerce has published a list of drive-in hotspots available all across the state. 

Gifts - Donations

For the safety of library staff, donations of physical items for our collection will not be accepted at this time.
