Library of Congress Classification - like the Dewey Decimal System, "LC," as it's often referred to, is another system for organizing materials and information in the library. Library of Congress Subject Headings are much more specific than keywords. They can help you find the most relevant books on your topic. |

| Using the UW Libraries Catalog | |||
Begin your UW Libraries research from home or school by using the UW Libraries Catalog. The catalog includes the more than seven million books, journal subscriptions, maps and other materials owned by the 20 libraries that make up the UW Libraries. You can limit your search to only the books we have here. When you are in the UW Libraries Catalog, change the location from Entire Collection to Bothell/CCC Campus Library. The background will turn yellow, and you'll only be searching for materials we have in the Bothell Campus Library. In the Catalog, you can search by Author, Title or Keyword. You'll probably want to start out with a keyword search. Reminder: Your search terms must match those that are in a book's record. Since a book's record doesn't contain lots of words, you want to be broad yet precise. In other words, it's not Google. Do not use keyword phrases such as college right after high school A better search would be college and high school Be sure to write down the call number and the LOCATION. There are many locations within the Campus Library. It can be frustrating to look for a book in the General Stacks when the book is located in the Reference Shelves on the first floor. |
