Finding Health Data Sources
Online Sources National Center for Health Statistics - US government clearinghouse of health-related data. Be sure to check out: Health, United States, an annual publication of US health statistics; and Faststats, a browseable list of popular health statistics. MedlinePlus: Health Statistics - Collection of links to national and international health statistics. Health Data Tools and Statistics - Another collection of links to health data and statistics (this one produced by a consortium of government agencies, organizations and libraries); this site also has a section devoted to health policy. Washington State Department of Health - Collection of vital statistics and health data for Washington state. This is where you can find the Health of Washington State, an overview of Washington's health care services and health status. World Health Organization Data and Statistics - International health statistics. Books American Health Demographics and Spending - WA900 .AA1 A445 2005 Best of Health: Demographics of Health Care Consumers - WA900 .AA1 W452 2000 Both of these books are located in the Reference section, on the first floor of the library Articles PAIS UW restricted - Find articles on topics related to government, politics and policy. PubMed - Comprehensive database on medical topics, including health policy. These are just a select few databases. UW subscribes to many more! You can also browse databases by subject.
