What are some of the advantages and disadvantages to this?


Advantages:

  1. Wide dissemination of information
  2. Free
  3. Not copyrighted so can be distributed
  4. Quick way to get some facts initially—a stepping stone to further research
  5. A gateway to other sources
  6. Can be useful for narrowly defined uses but not for everything

Disadvantages:

  1. Constant changes – lack of reliability
  2. Not always use neutral point of view
  3. Include opinions and bias
  4. Sometimes provide incorrect or misinformed information
  5. Not refereed by expert
  6. Ideas can be stated without citation to support them
  7. Anyone can post or change information, not just experts
  8. Content may be incomplete or inaccurate because it can be constantly updated/changed
