Please do not come to campus to return Library materials when campus is closed due to inclement weather or other emergency conditions. On the day campus re-opens, the Library will backdate all returns to the last day we were open. If you are unable to return your material on the first day we re-open, fines will be assessed for the days we were closed. In that case, you can appeal the fines using the Appeal of Library Charges web form.
Check the UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College websites for updated closure information.
Note that we do have a street-level bookdrop below the Library on Campus Way NE that you can use to return books and media (not laptops) after campus re-opens without having to park on campus. There is a driveway with a sign for the Library loading dock, and the bookdrop is a few feet away.
University of Washington and Cascadia Community College students, faculty, staff as well as authorized off-campus borrowers may borrow materials from the UWB/CCC Campus Library. Services available vary based on Borrower Type. There is no limit to the number of items you can check out.
Your student, staff or faculty ID card is your library card. New cards must be activated at the Information Commons Desk before use. Once activated, you may access your library account information online (note: you must have a NetID in your library record before you will be able to access your library account online).
Once activated at a Circulation Desk, your library card may be used at any of the University of Washington Libraries. You are responsible for:
Check due dates, renew books and keep your email up to date online in Your Library Account
Visit the University of Washington Libraries Borrowing Services for more information.
General circulating materials checked out from Bothell/CCC Stacks check out for the following periods of time:
Most bound periodicals from Bothell/CCC Stacks are checked out to Faculty, Grads, Staff, Undergrads, and Alumni for 3 days with unlimited renewals.
Some collections within the Campus Library (i.e. Reference) are in-library use only, while other collections (i.e. Reserve, Career, Writing, Topics, etc.) check out for a limited number of days.
It is important to regularly check your library account for accurate due dates, and to renew items online.
Most feature films owned by the UWB/CCC Campus Library can be checked out for 7 days. These "circulating" media items can be renewed indefinitely until someone else requests them.
Other media items (such as documentary films and some television programs) are for instructional use. Students can check these out to watch in the library and Faculty can check them out, book them, or place them on Reserve for class use.
Media viewing stations are available on the first and second floors of the library. Also, all study rooms on the third floor are equipped with media viewing equipment (DVDs and VCRs) and can be booked by groups of two or more people.
Books and media (other than Reserve) may also be returned at the Seattle or Tacoma campuses, or at any Summit library. Items will be checked in at those locations and returned to the Campus Library.
Reserve books must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.
Books may be renewed online by going to Your Library Account.
To renew over the phone, call 425-352-5340
The following exceptions apply:
Fines are assessed to encourage prompt return of materials. Fines apply all days and all hours, even if the library is closed. Unpaid fines can result in blocking of registration, graduation, transcripts, and library privileges.
The Library Cashier's Office in Suzzallo Library handles fines and billing for all UW Libraries, so fines cannot be paid at the Campus Library in Bothell.
Patrons may pay fines online, as well as by phone, by mail, or in person at the Cashier's Office. Paying with a Credit/Debit card by phone, (206) 543-1174, is the fastest way to get library fines removed from your library account!
If you believe the library has made an error or if you have a special situation that made it difficult for you to return or renew materials on time, please read the information about filing an appeal and fill out the Appeals Form. If you are unsure what to enter in any of the Appeals Form fields, please call us at (425) 352-5340.

Place a hold on a checked out item by clicking on the "request/place hold" button while searching the UW Libraries catalog. This may recall the item from the person who has it checked out, causing it to be due in 7-14 days. If another copy of the item is listed as AVAILABLE in the catalog, you will get it more quickly by requesting that copy instead (see "Getting Books from Other Libraries (UW Only)" below).
Cascadia students, staff and faculty cannot use the UW Libraries online catalog to place holds on checked out items. However, you may request a hold on a checked out item by visting the Information Commons Desk at the library, calling 425-352-5340, or sending an email with your name, student ID number, and book information to botcirc@uwb.edu.
Important note: holds can be placed on items owned by other UW Libraries, but they will be held for pickup at the owning location. For instance, a book that belongs to Suzzallo Library will be held at the Suzzallo Library Circulation Desk at UW Seattle. If a book is in storage in storage, we can request that it be transferred to a UW Seattle pickup location such as Suzzallo Circulation.
UW faculty, staff and students can search the Worldcat Local catalog for books to borrow from libraries all over the United States and beyond. If the book is available from a UW Library, you will click a button that says "Request Item" to request it from our local catalog. If it is available from a library in the Orbis-Cascade Alliance, you can click on the "Request Item 5 Days" button to request it. If it is available from other libraries in the U.S. or beyond, you will click a button that says "Request Item 12 Days". Average delivery times are estimates and items may take an extra day or two to get to our campus. Length of checkout will vary.
It is important to regularly check your library account for accurate due dates, and to renew items online.
