2009-2010 Cascadia Community College Contract Impact on Services
In the 2009-2010 contract negotiation between
Cascadia Community College and the UW Libraries, funding was eliminated for the following library
services (starting July 1, 2009):
Requesting books, media, articles, etc. from other UW Libraries
Borrowing from Summit and other non-UW libraries
Booking videos from other UW Libraries for class use
If you have any questions or concerns about this reduction in service, please contact:
Sarah Leadley: sleadley@uwb.edu, 425-352-5387
Ann Beaulieu : abeaulieu@cascadia.edu, 425-352-8255
These changes will have the following impact on Campus Library services to Cascadia Community College students, faculty and staff:
Document Delivery
Resources from the Campus Library
You will no longer be able to request Campus Library materials using the Online Catalog
You must come into the Library and pull books and videos from the shelves
What if the Campus Library book you need is checked out?
Ask Circulation Staff to place a hold on it for you (425-352-5340 or botcirc@uwb.edu)
Resources at UW Seattle and UW Tacoma
You must travel to these libraries to get the materials you need
If you check the catalog and notice that the book you need in Seattle/Tacoma is checked out, Campus Library staff will be able to place a hold on it for you (425-352-5340 or botcirc@uwb.edu).
Library Staff cannot place holds on items that are listed as AVAILABLE at the Campus Library or at other UW Libraries.
Summit Libraries
You can no longer borrow materials from libraries within the Orbis-Cascade Consortium (Summit Catalog) via online requesting in the Summit catalog or in-person checkout at those libraries.
Books from these libraries can be ordered through Interlibrary Loan for a fee (see below)
Articles from libraries outside the UW system: $45
Books from libraries outside the UW system: $55
Booking Media for Class Dates
If you need Campus Library media titles for a specific class date, please ask a Library Staff member to book the title for you.
If a Campus Library Staff member books a UW Seattle or UW Tacoma library item for you, you will need to travel to those libraries and check them out in person.
Impact on Reserve Services (for Cascadia Faculty)
The Campus Library Reserves Unit will not order books, articles, or media owned by UW Seattle or UW Tacoma libraries and place them on Reserve at the Campus Library.
If you wish to have UWS or UWT materials placed on reserve or scanned for E-reserves, you must checkout the materials in person from those Libraries and bring them to the Reserves Staff at the Campus Library.
You can email reserves@uwb.edu with requests to place Campus Library books or media items on Physical Reserve. The Reserves Unit will pull the item and place it on Reserve for the class. However, staff will not pull books from which to scan articles for E-reserve. If faculty want a chapter from a book or journal scanned for E-Reserve, they must come to the Library, get the material, and deliver it to the Reserves Unit. This is the same policy we have for UW Bothell Faculty.
Renewal and Return Services Have Not Changed
You will continue to have unlimited renewals for books and media, unless another patron places a hold on the item.
