More information about RefWorks is at the bottom of this web page.

Using the UW Libraries Catalog

The UW Libraries Catalog provides you with access to more than eight million titles from the twenty University of Washington Libraries in Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma. The catalog is a publicly accessible database, and is available from any computer with an Internet connection. Through the UW catalog you can also search the Summit catalog and gain access to items at academic libraries throughout WA and OR. Check out this library guide for information on searching the catalog, renewing books, checking out books from other libraries and more.

The easiest way to add references from the UW Libraries Catalogis to input the information manually. In other words, if you are adding citation information for a book,

  • Go to References (on the toolbar)
  • Choose Add New Reference
  • Indicate citation format from drop-down menu and folder
  • Enter the appropriate information. Use the green check marks as a guide

Finding Journal Articles & Importing Citation Information into RefWorks

Many of the UW Libraries article databases allow you to export citations directly to RefWorks. Since the databases are not all the same, the directions to execute the direct export may vary slightly. Detailed directions for the databases are below.

General Directions:

  • Log into RefWorks using your UW NetID.
  • Open a new browser window and go to the Campus Library's web site. Choose Databases A - Z: articles & more under Resources. Choose a database. Remember if you are off campus, you must go to the red off-campus access box on the upper right hand corner of this page and enter your UW NetID.
  • Enter your search terms and click search.
  • From the list of search results, mark or check the articles you would like to export to your RefWorks account.
  • Look for options that allow you to export your marked citations. Choose RefWorks.
