In May the University of Washington Board of Regents will be conferring honorary degrees on those Japanese American students who were enrolled at UW when the mass exclusion and incarceration of Japanese Americans on the West Coast became law during World War II. At the time, there were over 400 Japanese American students enrolled at UW.
Thanks to Prof. Carole Kubota, the Campus Library is pleased to be able host an exhibit created by Bainbridge Island’s Japanese American community documenting their forced removal from their homes and businesses. The exhibit is on the ground floor of the Library and will be available through the end of May (and possibly through Spring Quarter).
More information about UW’s plans to honor our students and about the University’s response during the crisis can be found on UWeek.
